London Food Strategy Report
In the Food strategy report I became aware of ‘Food Insecurity’. This has really hit a sensitive place in me. I have been on this journey so far in a very privileged way. Food is a source of worry in some areas . I want to know more and how I can help with. my research.
FOOD INSECURITY
Your feedback in our discussion on food choices back in 2018 has helped highlight the needs of London’s most vulnerable groups and prompted the Mayor and partners to measure food insecurity in London.
City Hall has now published the first measure of food insecurity in London. It showed that 1.6 million adults and 400,000 children struggle to afford or access a healthy, affordable diet and further research is now underway to understand more about the barriers older Londoners and disabled Londoners face in accessing appropriate food and how they are impacted by food insecurity.
The findings are helping to deliver more sustainable, long-term interventions to deal with the underlying causes of food insecurity and the Mayor has continued to support the Kitchen Social programme, which provides 10,000 children with more than 50,000 healthy meals each year to address children’s food insecurity during the summer holidays.
The Mayor has also supported ten boroughs to produce Food Poverty Action Plans, enabling a more strategic approach to address the underlying causes of food insecurity at a local level.
